A case study on how we used the open source implementation of Nephio Release 2 to deploy and operate a Nokia 5G Core, that is identical to a commercial offer, on AWS. I will explain how we described the topology of Network Functions by a generic, target environment-agnostic blueprint and how we transformed this by a cooperation of automated processes and human engineers to an AWS and Nokia-specific deployment package that we eventually deployed to AWS using a GitOps tool. I will discuss how the Nephio approach is novel compared to other orchestration tools, and also what are the elements of Nephio Release 2 that we had to change in order to be able to handle this particular real-world scenario.
